Sho Madjozi Hosts Pendoring Awards 2018 in Tsonga

The Pendoring Awards 2018 walked the talk on Thursday night with a true first: an awards ceremony in our 10 indigenous languages only. With English sub-titles for the untransformed.

The winners were announced at a high energy evening – a celebration for all those in the creative industry who have excelled in driving the use of our indigenous languages in advertising. Hosted and MC’d by linguist and comedian Pule Welch (who holds an Honours degree from Wits University specialising in the phonology of African languages), with entertainment from rapper and poet Sho Madjozi, comedian and Actor Anne Hirsch, eclectic band Bombshelter Beast and the queen of Ndebele music Dr Nothembi Mkhwebane on her electric guitar – #SpeakSouthAfrican #Pendoring2018 was loud and proud.

This year’s overall winner for the Pendoring awards is Joe Public United for their Get It Back campaign. They walked away with an overseas trip to the value of R100, 000.00 as a part of the Prestigious Umpetha Award and the advertiser SAB (AB InBev) received R550 000 in free airtime from KykNET and Mzansi Magic. The overall winning student is North-West University for their project, Volk and Vaderland. They won R10, 000.00, while every winner of a gold Pendoring received R6, 000.00 and the silver award winners walked away with R 2,500.00 each. The 2018 Craft gold winners each walked away with a R3,000.00 cash prize.
