Nestle has created The Choose Wellness Plan aimed at helping you find balance in your life with useful tips on how you can do the above. What does it mean to eat smarter, move more and live better?
Eat Smarter – Proper nutrition is key, it is the fuel that drives your body throughout the day. Ensuring variety from all the five food groups, leading an active lifestyle and sticking to recommended serving sizes are all essential elements of nutrition.
Move More – Make an effort to move a little each day. Whether it is committing to taking the stairs or doing five minutes of stretches every morning can go a long way.
Live Better – Those who eat smarter and move more tend to live better. Be present and be committed in achieving your goals in order to increase quality time with your family and friends.
Are you ready to choose wellness? Below are tips from Nestle to get you started:
- Read and understand labels to make more informed and better-for-you food choices.
- Watch your kilo joules – As an active adult, you need around 8400 kilo joules per day.
- Eat more fruits, vegetables and whole-grains.
- A quarter of your plate should consist of lean proteins such as legumes, chicken, and legumes and another quarter should consist of starch.
- Make half of your plate vegetables. Add a fruit to your meal as a side dish or dessert.
- Reduce sizes of plates, bowls and glasses and choose similar servings.
- Cu back on foods high in fat, sugar and salt. Have them as occasional treats.
- Keep hydrated by drinking at least 8 glasses of water per day and reduce your consumption of sweetened beverages.
- Set aside a few minutes each day to be present.
- Move and stay physically active with your family. Be active for at least 150 minutes per week.
